home makeover
The single-family house in Würzburg was redesigned with a modern and spacious room concept in mind. For this purpose, the rooms of the lower floor are combined into one large space. To open up the kitchen, the southern wall is removed and a new G-shaped kitchen installed, connecting the kitchen area with the dining room area. The entrance to the living room is extended by a hidden cloakroom with a shelf wall integrated into the back. Along the south wall of the house, a long sideboard provides adequate storage space. To create a modern and friendly atmosphere, new oak parquet floor is laid. The colour scheme is based on light colours such as mint, apricot, grey and white.
In addition, the family bathroom on the first floor is to be redesigned and visually enlarged. A small platform at the back of the bathroom allows a spacious floor-level shower to be installed, which is enlightened by a luminous ceiling above it. The large washbasin fits seamlessly into the resulting niche and visually expands the bathroom space with a rimless mirror. Alongside the new bathroom arrangement, the existing tiles will be replaced with modern grey stoneware tiles and the colours of the entire bathroom will be brightened up.
The redesign of the family home was my main assignment during the four-month internship in the interior architecture office «tbia - Thomas Bieber Innenarchitekten». In addition to learning computer programmes such as Vectorworks and Indesign, I also gained insights into client communication as well as into the creative design process and the construction process. I worked alongside an interior designer from the office, with whom I shared the project.
Part of my job was to first identify the client's wishes and visualise them using mood boards. To do this, I worked with a lot of variations to make the clients feel like they were actively participating in the design process. I visualised constructional changes in the floor plans, which I had firstly measured and drawn, both by hand and with the CAD programme Vectorworks. Alongside Photoshop collages, I was also able to deepen my graphical skills while creating presentation layouts with Indesign. I was also able to teach myself the art of rendering within this project and apply it directly to visualisations of the previously created designs.
At the end of my internship, the design part of the project was completed, a realisation of the ideas took place after my internship, but I was not able to take part in it.
